For the more sophisticated treasure hunter especially those interested in finding coins and jewelry the White's DFX at approximately $1000 is a great choice.  The DFX is a very robust machine which almost certainly will be confusing for a beginner and present an experienced treasure hunter with a couple challenges. It is well worth it however. The factory presets are a great place to start with you treasure hunting to keep it simple and so you get used to it.

The sophistication of the DFX allows sphere into users to crank up the sensitivity of the machine and really hop it up. White's electronics offers several different coils for the DFX, but the factory stock coil is great for most applications.

This may seem like a very odd in obvious hint but to really maximize the enjoyment and benefit of your metal detector is crucial to read the instruction manual or watch the training DVD. Much of the terminology and technology is not intuitive and may use terms and jargon you have never heard before. Lots of people think they have purchased it for metal detector, when the fact is they haven't taken the time to learn how to use the Whites Metal Detector correctly.
